This project communicates our philosophy of community and context integration and land stewardship.
The Borrego Springs Park, Library and Sherriff Office design-build contract was the perfect canvas for Coastal Sage to create a sustainable, resilient and educational community asset. This project communicates our philosophy of community and context integration and land stewardship. We planned and designed the park as an extension of the library, to create a living classroom for the children, community and visitors. The landscape desert context has scarce water assets and required a skilled creative solution.
Interpretive signs in the playground, plant plaques along the Walk of the Cosmos are representative distances from the sun, and the center imagery in Polaris Plaza identifies true north for star gazers, ecology and sky education for the park experience.
The Result
The connection of community and context through landscape design expressed gently on the land.
Three projects with three different user/owner groups were combined under one contract. Schedule and budget were met, and the grand-opening ceremony in December 2018 was embraced by the entire community and county as an enormous success.
